Biodiversity and ESG: Integrating Save Local Bees Conservation into Corporate Practices
In today’s society, companies not only need to pursue economic benefits but should also pay attention to their social and environmental impact. ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) has become an important indicator for corporate sustainable development, and within the “Environment” category, “Biodiversity” has gradually become a focal issue worthy of corporate attention and support.
Biodiversity, as the name suggests, refers to the diversity of all living species on Earth, including animals, plants, and microorganisms. This is not only a precious natural resource but also the cornerstone of ecosystems, supporting our lives and economic development. However, due to human activities, global biodiversity is facing serious threats, with many species at risk of extinction, posing challenges to our society and economy.
When it comes to conservation, the public often only talks about heritage conservation and cultural preservation, but in fact, biodiversity in nature is equally deserving of everyone’s attention. Some organisms, despite their small size, silently make significant contributions to the natural ecology and human life, and today’s protagonist – bees – is one of them.

Important Contribution of Bees
Bees are the guardians of Earth’s ecological balance, playing a crucial role as pollinators, allowing plants to continue reproducing and maintaining the normal operation of agriculture on which human survival depends. Biologists have speculated that if bees were to disappear from the world, humans would face extinction within 4 years due to a lack of food, highlighting the importance of bees. However, the relentless wheel of human societal development is shrinking bee habitats, coupled with the use of pesticides and chemical insecticides, leading to a rapid decline in the global bee population, a worrying situation.
Johnson Group values the importance and contributions of bees to the natural ecosystem and human society. Behind the facade of social development, we have noticed a decline in the beekeeping industry in Hong Kong, and the survival of local bees is under serious threat. Furthermore, there is a lack of public awareness and understanding of beekeeping.
Therefore, in 2018, Johnson Group initiated the Save Local Bees Conservation Program. We actively promote the message of “saving bees” instead of “exterminating bees”, and work closely with local beekeepers to conserve local bees and support the sustainable development of local beekeeping in Hong Kong.
Save Local Bees Conservation Program
If you discover a beehive inside a residential or commercial building, the traditional and most straightforward method in the past was to notify the property and site management to arrange for a pest control company to directly use insecticides to exterminate the beehive. The establishment of the Save Local Bees Conservation Program aims to correct and educate the public, providing them with an alternative choice – to save bees instead of exterminating them.
Upon receiving reports of beehive and bee colony sightings from customers, Save Local Bees team collaborates with local beekeepers to take action, attempting to relocate the bee colonies to bee farms closer to nature where they can continue their lives, produce honey, and thrive. Your decision can save these vulnerable lives.
