Bacteria and moulds

We are exposed to many different types of bacteria in our daily life. Although most of them do not pose health risks, studies have shown that these four common bacteria can easily be found in many of the indoor environments and hard surfaces: Micrococcus, Staphylococcus, Bacillus, and Pseudomonas.

Mould contamination is one of the major factors that deteriorate the indoor air quality. Many buildings have problems like water leakage or poor ventilation, the damp environment in return support the growth of moulds.

When mould spores land on a moist / damp surface, they begin to grow. Moulds can cause different health issues as they produce allergens, irritants, and in some cases, even toxins (mycotoxins). Environmental Allergy

IgE and Asthma

Immunoglobulin E, or IgE, is a kind of antibody that plays an important role in the development of allergic asthma. Increased levels of IgE may result when you are exposed to allergens, such as dust mite, pollen, pet dander, mould spore, particulate matter or formaldehyde. Your body releases IgE, which then binds with several types of cells like basophils, lymphocytes & mast cells. This can then stimulate your immune system, cause your airways to become narrow and inflamed, and make your asthma symptoms worse.
