Common Folk Wisdom Methods

The common folk wisdom methods mentioned, such as using coffee grounds, tea leaves, bamboo charcoal, pineapple, grapefruit peel, and onion, to deal with formaldehyde, might not be effective solutions. This is because these methods attempt to absorb formaldehyde or mask its odor but do not address the root of the problem.

For example, although bamboo charcoal is known for its adsorption properties, it becomes less effective at absorbing formaldehyde because formaldehyde only resides on the surface of activated charcoal and can be released again when it becomes saturated, causing secondary pollution. Similarly, placing fruit peels can only mask the original odor but does not have any effect on reducing the concentration or breaking down formaldehyde.
