IPPC is an international treaty
to secure action to prevent the spread and introduction
of pests of plants and plant products, and to promote
appropriate measures for their control. We follow
strictly the International Standards for
Phytosanitary Measures15 (ISPM15) which wood packing
materials WPM are required to be fumigated for 24 hours
before exporting.
Johnson Group Fumigation Limited is an authorized professional
fumigation service provider with more than 20 years
experience. We operate under the
Pesticides Permit issued by Agriculture,
Fisheries and Conservation Department (C0738) for the Government
of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region P.R.C. in importing,
storing, using fumigants, and selling it to other permit
holders. The commercial fumigation certificate issued
by us is applicable in all international trades.
With Johnson Group, you can enjoy a one-step
fumigation solution including container fumigation, Loose cargo
Fumigation and, Aeration (Degas), Fumigation Certificate etc. The fumigation site in HKSAR is
located at G64-G68, Terminal 7, Container Port Road South, Kwai Chung,

What is Methyl Bromide/
bromomethane (CH3BR)?
Methyl bromide is a
colorless and odorless liquefied gas at normal temperature and pressure
in relatively high concentrations, when it has a chloroform-like smell.
Methyl bromide mainly
used as highly effective fumigating element in agriculture. It
penetrates soil with ease and is very effective against a wide spectrum
of harmful things: weeds, nematodes, parasites, insects, fungi,
bacteria, rodents, etc
With its effectiveness
and unique characteristics, methyl bromide has been used globally as a
fumigant for a wide range of stored grains, dry foodstuffs (such as
cocoa and coffee beans, dried fruit and nuts), and other
commodities/food/feed like tobacco, fresh fruit, and vegetables, in
particular to comply with quarantine regulations.
What is Methyl Bromide (CH3BR)
Fumigation?
Methyl Bromide (MBr) used as a
general-purpose fumigant to kill a variety of pests
including rats and insects. MBr has poor fungicidal
properties. It is However, MBr is the preferred fumigant
for ISPM 15, regulations when exporting wooden
packaging to certain countries and is currently accepted
fumigant for most of the quarantine authorities around
the world, because of its good penetrating ability,
rapid action, high toxicity to a broad spectrum of
insects and pests. It is frequently used for fumigating
timber, agricultural products, empty containers, food
stuffs, and other agricultural products. When fumigation
is carried out with Methyl Bromide fumigant residue
problems will not be there as aeration can be carried
out easily. It is very effective in controlling all
stages of insects from egg to the adult stage.
Quarantine Authorities around the world have stipulated
that methyl bromide fumigation has to be carried out for
all the wood packaging materials.
Fumigation is followed by and
aeration (degas) period where fresh air is passed
through the fumigation chamber to remove methyl bromide
from the air space as well as from the commodities.
Dependence on temperature, volume of cargo fumigated and
concentration in chambers fumigated, it may take at
least 2 hours of aeration (degas) to vent the methyl
bromide residue below an exposure limit value 5ppm or
~19 mg/m³.
Fumigation Of Wood Packaging
Materials (WPMs)
Methyl Bromide fumigation should be
carried out for all wood packaging materials i.e.
packing wood crates, skids and other packing materials.
Plant material such as straw, rice hulls and similar
plant material used as packing material can carry exotic
insect pest and diseases. The wooden crates has to be
treated prior to shipment by carrying out fumigation
with Methyl Bromide. The maximum thickness of the
packing wood should not exceed 200 mm.
What is Ethylene Oxide (ETO)?
The chemical compound ethylene oxide
is an important industrial chemical used as an
intermediate in the production of ethylene glycol and
other chemicals, and as a sterilant for foods and
medical supplies. It is a colorless flammable gas or
refrigerated liquid with a faintly sweet odor. It is the
simplest example of an epoxide. Its IUPAC name is
epoxyethane. Other names for it include oxirane and
dimethylene oxide.
Ethylene oxide gas kills bacteria
(and their endospores), mold, and fungi, and can
therefore be used to sterilize substances that would be
damaged by sterilizing techniques such as pasteurization
that rely on heat. Additionally, ethylene oxide is
widely used to sterilize medical supplies such as
bandages, sutures, and surgical implements. The
overwhelming majority of medical items are sterilized
with ethylene oxide. Preferred methods have been the
traditional chamber sterilization method, where a
chamber is flooded with a mix of ethylene oxide and
other gases which are later aerated.
Safety is our no. priority!
Indiscriminate usage of powerful
pesticides may be efficient in eliminating pest
immediately but the damage caused to our health and to
the ecological system is very dangerous. In fumigation
services we comply with all the rules and regulations as
per the local laws in usage of the pesticides. Dosages
are calculated keeping in view the safety of the cargo
and safety of the operator who is performing the
fumigation operations. The fumigants dosage are fixed
after evaluating the degree of infestation. Gas masks
with canisters are used while carrying out fumigation/
aeration and also while monitoring gas concentration.
At fumigation services we are in the
process of constantly learning and developing new
process that will suit our customers requirements. We
attend most of the training sessions that are conducted
in India and abroad to offer the best services to our
customers. As a approved Fumigation Service Provider, we have access to the
latest technologies and the most safety measures in the field of Fumigation..
